Preschool Field Trip – Environmental Nature Center

Today we went on our field trip to the Environmental Nature Center in Newport Beach. We were placed in three different groups: the Coyotes, the Hawks and the Bobcats. Each group had a leader who led us on a nature walk. During the nature walk, we were able to see and touch furs from a skunk, a raccoon, and a rabbit. As we walked along the trail, we observed redwood trees, streams of water, many leaves, and even cactus. At one point, our leader stopped to read us a story about butterflies and their life cycle. We continued hiking and came to another rest area where we were given the opportunity to hold snake skin and look closely at it through a magnifying glass. Then our leader pulled out a snake for us to touch! We learned that snakes shed their skin as they grow. At another rest area, our leader talked to us about the life cycle of a frog. We learned a big word, metamorphosis, to describe the changes in the frog’s life cycle. After we looked at pictures of each life cycle stage, our leader took out a frog and allowed us to touch it. We enjoyed learning about the changes that occur in nature!
