As part of our emergent curriculum, our Transitional Kindergarten children have often shown interest in the concept of composting and gardening. Part our outdoor classroom experience includes gardening, as each preschool classroom will decide what fruits and vegetables they would like to plant and then harvest for cooking and eating.
Through composting and eventually using the compost soil in one portion of our garden, we had an unintentional mini white pumpkins and cantaloupe crop begin to grow. The children diligently watered and observed the growing vines and we eventually harvested 39 mini white pumpkin! Perfect time for Fall.
