During our field trip to the Environmental Nature Center in Newport Beach, the children got to take a hike through the center as they discussed the life cycle of frogs and touched a real, live frog. Children also discussed snakes and how they shed their skin to grow, examined snakeskin with magnifying lenses, and got to meet a real, live snake. Some friends even touched the snake! The children also discussed that mammals have fur to keep them warm when it’s cold, and gently touched the fur of several local animals. Children also listened to stories such as “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and “Jump Frog Jump!” under the shade of an oak tree.
