The Pre-k class participated in a sewing activity. The interest emerged into the curriculum when the children received new dresses that were donated to the class. Some dresses were too long, so the children talked about cutting dresses and using the cut fabric to create new dresses and clothing.
The children helped cut the fabric, then watched as the teacher put the machine, needle, and thread together. Some friends had the opportunity to press down on the pedal to start the needle and threading process. With several attempts at sewing, most friends joined in with excitement when we were able to sew a fabric onto a dress. Some friends also created collage art using scissors, fabric we cut from dresses, and colored glue.
