The Preschool children took a trip to the Santa Ana Zoo! They saw lots of different apes, monkeys, birds (such as parrots and bald eagles), insects, amphibians, an ant eater, and even camels! Some children learned that the difference between apes and monkeys are their tails. Monkeys have tails, while apes do not. The children noticed a pattern on the lemurs’ tails—black, white, black, white. They saw camels and noticed the different shapes of their backs. They talked about nocturnal animals such as the ocelot and herbivores like the porcupine and were able to look at skeletons of crocodile species. They also got to ride on a train and see all of the animals from the barn!
