About Huntley, Tustin
In 1887, William Huntley and Robert Tustin founded the city of Tustin on the site where they had been raising cattle. Their original intention was to name it after one of them, but both men liked the sound of “Tustin” so much that they agreed to share credit for naming their town. Today, more than 100 years later, it’s still officially known as “Tustin.”
In 1928, when California State Route 72 was built through downtown Tustin (then just a cluster of houses), many residents began moving out into new subdivisions like Valencia Park and El Modena. The town grew rapidly throughout the 1930s; by 1940, 4500 people lived in Tustin.
During World War II, the town’s population increased dramatically by building camps for Japanese-American internees at Irvine and Tustin (a separate headquarters at the exact location was set up for Italian-Americans). An internment camp holding German prisoners of war was built near the old El Toro Marine Base. After the war, some of these people remained in Tustin.
Yes, it’s adorable to live in Huntley, Tustin, and California. The weather is excellent, the people are friendly, and there are plenty of things to do.
Some of the best grocery stores in Huntley, Tustin, and California are Safeway, Vons, Ralphs, and Stater Bros. There are also several good parks, including Santiago Oaks Irvine Regional Park and Peters Canyon Regional Park. For restaurants, some of the best choices include The Old Spaghetti Factory, Buca di Beppo, and Souplantation.
Tustin is a great place to live, but it has some problems. For example, major highways like the 5 and 55 can be congested during rush hour, and there have been many burglaries in the area lately. However, most residents seem to be happy with Tustin, and I think that’s true for many people who live in Huntley, Tustin, and California.
